Position Summary
Prefer declared major/minor relative to the typical job duties including but not limited to marketing or communications. Must have a valid Michigan driver's license with a good driving record and able to work 30 - 40 hours per week including evenings, weekends and holidays. This position is not eligible for benefits. Duration of this position will coincide with the selected candidates semester schedule for a period of 12 - 16 weeks or the 2026 Parks Season.
Position Description
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Jackson County Parks oversees 18 parks with more than 1,000 acres of wooded and natural areas, beaches, trails, and recreational facilities. Key attractions include The Cascades (Cascade Falls), Falling Waters Trail, The American 1 Event Center, campgrounds at Pleasant Lake and Swains Lake, and the Jackson County Fair. The Marketing & Events Intern will assist in implementing the department’s marketing plan for Jackson County Parks and the Jackson County Fair through multiple media channels, including social media and digital platforms.

Responsibilities include creating and scheduling promotional content, supporting event planning and programming, executing photography and video efforts, updating websites, researching competitor strategies, and providing general administrative support. The intern will play a key role in enhancing the visibility and success of Jackson County Parks and the Jackson County Fair through creative marketing and community engagement.

1. Assist in the development of planning events and programming special events for the Jackson County Fair, American 1 Event Center and the Jackson County Parks Department.
2. Develops promotional content to be published on multiple platforms.
3. Maintain a social media schedule to plan, execute, and monitor marketing efforts.
4. Makes recommendations to enhance Parks and Recreation marketing efforts.
5. Executes photography and video efforts for social media at summer events and programs including the Jackson County Fair.
6. Assist in providing updates to department website.
7. Promote Jackson County Parks Department, events and attractions verbally at various community events.
8. Researching and evaluating competitor marketing and digital content.
9. Assist with general administrative duties such as assisting customers with questions, reservations, and accepts payment for services and programs such as camping and picnic shelter reservations offered by the Parks Department.
10. Other duties and special projects as assigned.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
(A) Declared major/minor relative to the typical job duties including but not limited to marketing or communications.
(B)Valid Michigan driver’s License.

PREFERRED:
(A)Experience in using Microsoft office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Publisher. (B)Experience in using Canva and social media platforms (C) Effective communication skills, (D) Available to work a flexible schedule that meets the needs of the department, including available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
