Jackson Host Lions Club was chartered in 1921, the first Lions Club in Jackson County, thus the ''Host'' designation. We are the second oldest Lions Club in Michigan. Jackson Host has sponsored 16 Lions Clubs. We meet at Cascades Manor each Monday at noon, except for Holidays. In Cooperation with Jackson County Parks we decorate the Denton Rd bridge year round and the Cascades for Christmas. In Cooperation with the Jackson Daffodil Society and other Lions clubs, we plant daffodils at Cascades and Sharp Parks. We have conducted ''The Diamond in the Rough, Jim Rich Memorial Golf Classic'' for 32 years. We conduct vision screening of individuals from 6 months to 100+ years of age, with the emphasis on Preschool age. Year round we provide funding assistance for individuals with needs and no other help available for eye exams and the procurement of glasses. Late winter, leading into spring, we sell the famous ''Vidalia Onions''. In April we recognize the pillar of Lions since its founding 105 years ago, blindness and vision impairment, by conducting White Cane awareness. In 1925 Helen Keller at the Lions Clubs International Convention in Cedar Point charged Lions to become, ''Knights of the Blind in the crusade against darkness.'' Lions International at its 100th Convention added to Vision the pillars of Pediatric Cancer, Diabetes, Hunger and Environment.
